Psychology and Spirituality
For the Counselor and Clinician
Healing the Soul
For generations, the fields of psychology and spirituality have been viewed as separate, even opposing forces. Yet, with the emergence of Jungian, Transpersonal, and 12-Step models, it has become evident that this divide is more illusion than truth. True and lasting healing occurs when psychological and spiritual health are seen as intertwined rather than distinct.
Behavioral change requires more than simply altering actions—it necessitates shifting the motivations that drive those behaviors. Long-term mental and emotional well-being is not achieved by merely reducing symptoms; rather, it stems from cultivating higher consciousness or spiritual intelligence—an expanded sense of self. After all, the word psyche originates from the Greek word for soul.
The Purpose of Souldrama
Souldrama® is designed to align the ego and soul, guiding individuals toward their higher purpose. It is a seven-stage group action model for spiritual transformation, offering distinct stages—doorways—of personal growth and self-discovery.
Through this dynamic process, Souldrama helps individuals:
- Overcome career and relationship roadblocks
- Create new roles in their lives
- Release the light and peacefulness within their core being
- Illuminate their spiritual gifts
- Recognize and define their higher purpose
This transformative journey moves participants from Rational Intelligence (what I think), to Emotional Intelligence (what I feel), and ultimately to Spiritual Intelligence (what I am). By integrating these three intelligences, individuals can embrace the present moment and access a higher consciousness.
The Journey of Souldrama: A Pilgrimage of Transformation
The Souldrama process mirrors a spiritual pilgrimage or rite of passage. Its core elements include:
- Accepting the challenge to embark on the journey for a specific purpose
- Finding faith and truth in one’s vision
- Invoking the strength of spirit and perseverance
- Listening to and allowing the soul to speak and work through oneself
- Overcoming obstacles that slow progress
- Performing rituals and connecting with the transcendent self
- Returning to one’s home community, bringing back enlightenment and blessings
As participants progress through each doorway, they uncover personal challenges that must be overcome before moving forward. With each stage’s completion, they receive the gift of illumination—a glimpse of their authentic self—to light the way on their ongoing journey of self-discovery.
Each stage serves as a step toward deeper spiritual development:
- Doors One and Two help transcend Rational Intelligence
- Doors Three and Four move beyond Emotional Intelligence
- Doors Five and Six guide individuals into Spiritual Intelligence
- Door Seven integrates and transforms all three, revealing the wisdom and knowledge necessary to embrace one’s life purpose

Course Description: Souldrama® – A Psychospiritual Path to Transformation
In times of crisis, a deeper connection to spirituality and faith in humanity becomes essential. Recognized as an innovative advancement in psychodrama, Souldrama® is a therapeutic, psychospiritual group action model guiding participants through seven sequential stages of spiritual development. The ultimate goal: accessing spiritual intelligence and aligning the ego with the soul.
Much like a pilgrimage, Souldrama helps individuals and groups move past resistance, unlocking their higher purpose and embracing personal transformation. As human beings, we share the collective responsibility of continuing the creative work of our higher power—becoming all that we are meant to be, unrestricted by societal norms.
Psychodrama expands reality by employing methods beyond everyday experiences. Souldrama builds on this foundation, providing a circular structure that integrates Rational, Emotional, and Spiritual Intelligence. This integration fosters profound inner growth, helping participants move past barriers and step into spiritually intelligent leadership.
The Power of Transitional Space
Both spiritual and psychotherapeutic growth require the creation of transitional space—a psychological and emotional zone between security (attachment) and autonomy (freedom to explore). This space can be harmonious and balanced or unsettling and chaotic, but within it lies the potential for transformation.
Souldrama provides this sacred space on the psychodrama stage, offering a transpersonal journey toward spiritual intelligence. Through this dynamic process, individuals cultivate resilience, embrace their authenticity, and step into leadership roles that reflect their highest potential.
Post-Traumatic Growth & Spiritual Transformation
Adversity and trauma, while painful, can also serve as catalysts for profound growth. Post-traumatic growth is often linked to:
- Positive religious coping
- Openness to spiritual exploration
- A readiness to confront existential questions
- Religious participation and intrinsic spiritual practice
As we deepen our relationship with the divine, we gain clarity on our higher purpose. This journey involves examining our internalized image of the divine, shaping how we perceive ourselves and our path forward.
Tedeschi and Calhoun (1996) developed the Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory, identifying five key domains in which individuals experience positive transformation:
- New Possibilities
- Deepened Relationships
- Personal Strength
- Greater Appreciation for Life
- Spiritual Change
Through Souldrama, individuals can engage in meaningful growth across one or more of these domains, opening doors to healing, enlightenment, and higher consciousness.
